“New Theatre maintains an astonishingly high standard of performance and production. Cabaret is the latest in a long, long line and exceeds all expectations.” Australian Stage“Strongly charged with sexuality and promiscuity … New Theatre’s production is very effective” Stage Whispers
“There was a cabaret, and there was a master of ceremonies... and there was a city called Berlin”
Struggling young writer Cliff moves into a seedy boarding house in 1930s Berlin and falls in love with the flamboyant, child-like singer Sally Bowles. Over a few tumultuous months, they will be swept into a dark and terrifying world of political chaos, violent anti-Semitism and personal crisis. Meanwhile in the decadent Kit Kat Klub cabaret, patrons and performers alike engage in erotically charged and sexually ambiguous games under the knowing gaze of the enigmatic EmCee, mirroring the turmoil raging outside.
Cabaret has been hailed as one of the most iconic and defining musicals of the 20th century, with its intoxicating blend of wry humour, edgy drama and jangling, jazzy songs.
